Rep. Heintzeman Releases Statement on Passage of House File 6

Friday, January 16, 2015

ST. PAUL – State Representative Josh Heintzeman, R-Nisswa, issued the following statement following the passage of House File 6, which conforms Minnesota tax code to federal changes that have occurred since 2013 as it pertains to items being filed for 2014. The bill includes deductions for higher education tuition, educator classroom expenses, and mortgage insurance premiums. In total, House File 6 provides $19.9 million dollars in immediate tax relief to Minnesota taxpayers.

“I am glad that the first bill passed by the House will bring immediate tax relief to Minnesotans, their families, and their businesses,” said Heintzeman. “Minnesota families deserve certainty when they file their taxes. It is encouraging that House Democrats and Republicans were able to work together to ensure that Minnesotans will see nearly $20 million dollars in tax relief.”

HF 6 passed the House on a unanimous bipartisan vote of 129-0. A similar bill is currently in the Senate and could be passed as soon as next week.
