STATEMENT: Chair Pinto Applauds Governor’s Children and Families Budget Proposal

Tuesday, January 17, 2023

St. Paul, MN – Today, Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan announced a proposal to make historic investments in Minnesota children and families in the upcoming state budget process. Representative Dave Pinto (DFL-St. Paul), chair of the House Committee on Children and Families Finance and Policy, released the following statement:

“Every child deserves a great start in life; we all benefit when that happens. I am thrilled by the administration’s focus on this critical goal. The proposed investments announced today by Governor Walz and Lt. Gov. Flanagan would fight child poverty and give families the resources they need to succeed. They would give many more families access to high-quality, affordable child care and early learning, so that parents can work, employers can expand, and communities can thrive, now and long into the future.

I’m particularly pleased with plans for a new Department of Children, Youth, and Families, which expands on my proposal for a new agency focused on the youngest Minnesotans.

I look forward to working with the Walz-Flanagan administration and my colleagues in the House and Senate to ensure that Minnesota children get the great start they deserve.”
