Capitol Update- May 18, 2018

Friday, May 18, 2018

Dear Neighbor,

The Legislative session is done at midnight on Sunday night. It is just after 5:00 p.m. on Friday and we have yet to see a supplemental budget bill, a tax bill that the Governor will sign, a compromise bonding bill, any common sense gun safety legislation, anything to truly prevent elder abuse and any measure to address the opioid epidemic in Minnesota. Not to mention any of the emergency funding our schools need.

I am beyond frustrated with the Republican leadership for dragging their feet and pushing everything until the very end. The next few days will be filled with ‘hurry up and wait’. There will be lots of discussion behind closed doors and hundreds of pages of bills showing up on our desks to be voted on at the last minute.

I have been reading all of the e-mails you are sending me, but may not get a chance to reply until the dust settles. I will send out an update on how the session concluded when all is said and done. But trust me, I hear you and share your frustration. Thank you for all of your advocacy!

Thank you,

Cheryl
