July 1, 2022- New Laws Take Effect

Friday, July 1, 2022
Rep. Youakim

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you’ve had a good week and were able to get out of the heat. I wanted to give you a heads up that July 22 will be my last weekly update until November. Since it is an election year, any proactive communication is not allowed after that date. You can still email or call me with issues and concerns and I am able to respond to you. But I cannot send you information unsolicited during an election year 60 days after we adjourn session.

July 1st is here, which means new laws take effect resulting from the legislation we passed during the legislative session.

You can review these, some of which include the creation of a state ombudsman or advocate for foster youth, new funding to increase hospital capacity, train new mental health care professionals, expand the use of mobile crisis services, the extension of the Minnesota Hometown Heroes Assistance Program and more, here.

City of Hopkins Seeking Youth to Serve on
Park Board and Planning and Zoning Commission

The City of Hopkins is seeking youth ages 14 to 18 from the Hopkins community to serve on the Park Board and Planning and Zoning Commission. If you know youth who would be interested in getting involved with the commission, please encourage them to apply here.

Happy Fourth of July!

I’m wishing you and your family a safe and Happy Independence Day! As we reflect on our nation’s birth, I remain committed to the core values of freedom the United States offers to our residents. The freedom to marry the person you love, the freedom to access reproductive health care, the freedom to bond with a new baby or care for an ill loved one with paid family leave, the freedom to safely go to any public space, free of gun violence, and more.

Enjoy the holiday weekend.
