St. Paul, Minn.— Representative Cheryl Youakim (DFL-Hopkins), chair of the House Education Finance Committee, has earned the Legislative Champion Award from the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) for her outstanding contributions and support of adult education.
“Education is a lifelong journey, and Minnesotans of all ages deserve opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Rep. Youakim. “I am thankful to COABE for their advocacy and work to ensure everyone has a chance to gain more knowledge.”
As Chair of the Education Finance committee and a member of the Education Policy committee, Rep. Youakim worked alongside her colleagues and the Literacy Action Network to increase state funding to Adult Basic Education (ABE) in Minnesota. The final K-12 budget bill included increased funding and a growth factor for ABE which will help to ensure the health of ABE in Minnesota for years to come.
