Legislative Update - December 8, 2017

Friday, December 8, 2017

On Tuesday, Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) released the 2017 November Budget and Economic Forecast. Projections show a deficit of $188 million for the current biennium, and a projected negative balance of $586 million for the 2020-21 biennium. Deficits are due to a reduced U.S. economic growth forecast and impacts of enacted legislation during the 2017 session. Unknowns in federal policy and the current economic expansion, one of the longest in U.S. history, create significant risk for this forecast.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is inviting members of the public to submit comments on a draft of the upcoming AGRI Urban Agricultural Grant Program Request for Proposal (RFP). Comments must be received by January 3, 2018 to be considered. The MDA anticipates releasing the finalized RFP in early 2018.

The AGRI Urban Agricultural Grant Program was developed to encourage urban youth agricultural education and urban agriculture community development.
