RELEASE: State Rep. Fue Lee: Data Disaggregation Essential to Ending Education Disparities

Friday, April 27, 2018

SAINT PAUL, MINN — Thursday, the Minnesota House passed a Republican supplemental education finance package on a 94-29 vote. The bill included important language regarding the disaggregation of student outcome data by race. State Rep. Fue Lee has strongly advocated for data disaggregation so that state resources can be targeted to districts that need more resources to tackle the achievement gap. Rep. Lee (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement:

“As a Hmong-American Minnesotan, the All Kids Count Act and educational data disaggregation is so important to making sure we’re reaching all kids and helping them learn. This bipartisan idea acknowledges and shows the diversity of our Asian Pacific Minnesotan community and all communities of various races in Minnesota. It helps us see that our many ethnic communities who have experienced different paths coming to Minnesota also have a varying range of academic success that require our special focus and attention. I’m glad to see that we will be continuing the All Kids Count Act in this bill and that the data provided will help us recognize student groups that we need to support and provide important resources.”

Rep. Lee encourages constituents to contact him with any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas on any legislative topic. Rep. Lee can be reached by phone at 651-296-4262 or by email at rep.fue.lee@house.mn .
