The Senate will take action on the bill next, and Gov. Walz has signaled he will sign the bill into law. I will be sure to keep you updated on its progress, which we hope will become law soon. Restore the VoteThis Thursday, the House Public Safety Committee held the second hearing for the “Restore the Vote” legislation, HF 28, a bill I’m co-authoring. Restoring the freedom to vote for Minnesotans is key to ensuring everyone in our community has a voice in our democracy. Minnesota has one of the nation’s highest rates of people on probation, and it is time to restore the freedom to vote for the 60,000 men and women living, working, and raising kids in our community. Driver’s Licenses for AllAnother piece of legislation I’m proud to co-author is the Driver’s Licenses for All Bill. The opportunity to obtain a driver’s license is something that should be available to all members of our community, regardless of immigration status. A driver’s license is often essential for economic security, and a necessity for all of our communities to be safe commuting and traveling on our roads. I am so grateful to all of the advocates and our community members who have fought for this critical legislation for almost two decades. We have a real opportunity to improve the lives of communities that have been ignored for far too often, far too long, and I look forward to doing everything I can to fight for them in the House. You can read more about how this bill would help some of our neighbors here. If you have any questions about the bills we’re working on, please feel free to contact my office.
