Dear Neighbors, We’re wrapping up Week 2 of the 2024 Legislative Session, and the road ahead for our work is beginning to take shape. As Chair of the House Capital Investment Committee, I know that it can take a long time for the investments from our work to be seen - sometimes it takes years before an infrastructure project is fully completed. As I craft this year’s Capital Investment Bill, I’m also looking to the future of what our investments can do. That’s why I authored House File 3582, which would require a recipient of state money for a capital improvement project to establish a replacement fund for major rehabilitation, expansion, or replacement of the project once it has reached its useful life. This is one avenue to help us ensure that we are planning for the future so that communities actually have a plan to fix the asset that we are putting money into, and we can continue to help out other communities throughout the entire state that still need help. If you’re interested, you can watch me testify on this legislation in committee here. |
