Capitol Newsletter from Rep. John Poston

Friday, February 1, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

It’s hard to believe that the 2019 legislative session is already a month old. We’ve spent a lot of time the last few weeks in committee, hearing from state agencies and departments about their budgetary requests for the coming biennium. In addition to agency overviews and requests, we have also started hearing bills on a wide variety of subjects. There’s still a long way to go before the end of session, but you can really tell that the energy is starting to pick up.

Earlier this week, I attended the annual Farm Bureau regional dinner where I was excited to join a number of local farmers and other agricultural folks. You don’t need me to tell you that agriculture and farming remain an incredibly important economic driver in our region and a way of life for many residents in our district.

What’s more, we have the Ag and Energy Center at nearby Central Lakes College. The center operates around 2,000 acres for research and crop production to learn better and more efficient ways to produce crops to feed Minnesota, our country, and the world.

As long as I’m serving as your representative, I will continue to be a strong voice and advocate for our farms. In our area, it’s more than just a profession, it’s a way of life. I will always fight to defend that.

I’ve received a few questions from folks looking for ways to track bills that I have authored or am co-authoring. You can view bills that I am chief-authoring by visiting this link. If you’re interested in bills I’m co-authoring, you can click here.

Finally, I was PROUD to stand with my colleagues in the House and Senate on Thursday in a joint press conference to make absolutely clear that we stand for life and the rights of the unborn. With all the insanity coming out of New York and Virginia in regards to late-term abortions all the up to birth, we wanted to present a united front letting Minnesotans know that in our state, life is respected and cherished.

I was proud to join my Republican colleagues in the House and Senate at a press conference to denounce radical abortion legislation in Virginia and New York

That’s all for this week’s update. I will have more for you as the session progresses as it’s sure to be a busy year. In the meantime, I urge you to contact me if you have any legislative questions, concerns, or ideas. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-5356 or via email at rep.john.poston@house.mn.

Have a good weekend,

John
