Rep. Brand calls for $30 million in support for Disability Service Providers

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

St. Paul, MN - Yesterday, State Representative Jeff Brand (DFL - St. Peter) called for $30 million in COVID-19 related retention grants for Disability Service Providers, having submitted a bipartisan letter encouraging Governor Tim Walz to support the measure.

Our vulnerable Minnesotans with mental and physical disabilities often need day care and/or day training, which allows them the advantage of learning life skills to be productive members of society, and to find a sense of accomplishment,” said Rep. Brand. “Many of the organizations that provide these services are at great risk of permanent closure without state support. Locally, Disability Service Providers like MRCI and AMV are facing critical decisions about whether or not to continue with their mission. This is about advocating for organizations locally, and I am proud to make this ask a bipartisan one.”

Similar action was taken by the Minnesota Senate in June, passing unanimously. The letter and its list of twenty cosigners can be found
