RELEASE: Rep. Moller announces Oct. 16 Criminal Justice Reform Forum in Shoreview

SAINT PAUL – On Wednesday, October 16, Rep. Kelly Moller (DFL – Shoreview) will host a Criminal Justice Reform Forum to discuss potential changes to improve outcomes from the system. The forum will be held at the Ramsey County Library – Shoreview from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Rep. Moller is a member of the House Public Safety and Criminal Justice Reform Committee, and outside the Legislature, serves as a prosecutor.

Rep. Moller will be joined by Chris Uggen, a professor at the University of Minnesota who studies crime, law, and inequality. With Jeff Manza, he wrote Locked Out: Felon Disenfranchisement and American Democracy, and he publishes extensively about criminology, criminal justice, law, and sociology. His work is frequently cited in media such as the New York Times, The Economist, and NPR. Other panelists will include individuals who have experienced the criminal justice system and who will describe the barriers they encountered after completing their sentences.

Probation terms, fines and fees, programming and treatment within correctional facilities, voting disenfranchisement, racial disparities, and consequences after sentence completion are all topics to potentially be explored at the forum.
