Rep. Kelly Moller Statement on Minneapolis Domestic Violence Related Shooting

Friday, September 4, 2026

St. Paul, MN — Today, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension held a press conference providing updates on yesterday's horrific shooting in Minneapolis. Describing how the shooting began with an act of domestic violence, the Superintendent of the BCA, Drew Evans, stated, “This is once again a situation where domestic violence is center and central to a really terrible situation with multiple people shot …The role that domestic violence continues to play in mass casualty incidents and other situations where people are shot and killed, continues to be a problem that we need to counter and figure out as a society.”

Representative Kelly Moller (DFL - Shoreview,) Co- Chair of the House Public Safety Committee, released the following statement in response:

“This is yet another tragic example of how domestic violence can lead to dangerous situations for the victims, bystanders, and first responders,” said Rep. Moller. “This is exactly why a bipartisan group of legislators worked to strengthen domestic violence laws and pushed to raise awareness of these changes earlier this summer. That work continues, as we look forward to the recommendations of the task force we created to prevent domestic violence and senseless tragedies like this one. To improve public safety in Minnesota, domestic violence prevention must be a top focus. My heart is with all those impacted by this terrible event.”
