Upcoming Town Hall

Wednesday, September 20, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you had a wonderful summer and are excited for the school year and upcoming fall! Here is a quick update with some important info and upcoming events.

Student Loan Payments Restart

Interest on student loans began accruing again on September 1, 2023, with first payments due in October. This means that if you have student loans and are not in school (or did not leave school within the last six months), you will receive notice from the U.S. Department of Education with your payment amount at least 21 days before your payment due date.

As the end of the student-loan payment pause nears, it’s important that you are well-informed about the details of your loans and take precautions to avoid bad actors who may take advantage of borrowers.

To that end Attorney General Ellison has issued new guidance so Minnesotans can understand their rights and obligations as student loan payments resume for federal student loans this fall. This new guidance, in the form of an FAQ, joins other resources for student-loan borrowers on the Attorney General’s website.

Crime Falls Across Minnesota

Violent crime fell by nearly 9% across Minnesota in 2022. While we still have a lot of progress to make, this is a great start, especially considering that most of the new funding and provisions we provided this session have yet to take effect. Read my full statement on this good news here.

Save the date!

I will be co-hosting a town hall for our district on September 27th at 6:30 p.m. Sign up here to receive the location.
