Release: Reps. Moller, Pinto Attend White House State Legislative Convening on Gun Violence Prevention

Wednesday, December 13, 2023

SAINT PAUL, MN – Today House Public Safety Committee Chair Kelly Moller (DFL-Shoreview) and State Representative Dave Pinto (DFL-St. Paul) joined legislators from across the country and Vice-President Kamala Harris at a White House event to discuss gun violence prevention. Chair Moller served as a panelist in a discussion that highlighted progress made in states like Minnesota and pointed toward additional steps moving forward into 2024.

Representative Pinto and Chair Moller released the following statement:

“With guns remaining the leading cause of death for children in the U.S., it is critical that we work collaboratively with our federal and state partners to combat gun violence. This is an epidemic that no one state can stop on its own; we must coordinate policy and enforcement. We were inspired by the positive examples of our state partners, and we look forward to bringing back effective policy ideas to Minnesota.”

In September 2023, President Biden established the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, overseen by Vice President Kamala Harris. President Biden tasked the office with key responsibilities, including enhancing the federal government’s partnerships with cities and states to help them advance their own efforts to reduce gun violence.

In the months ahead, the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention will continue to proactively work with states to make sure they have additional resources and support needed to advance new ideas. This includes executive actions on safe storage and lost and stolen firearms reporting. More info on Biden-Harris Administration actions can be found here.
