Dear Neighbors,
I hope you are enjoying the beginning of fall! The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released its official fall color forecast and an online dashboard earlier this month. The dashboard tracks and updates Minnesotans on the changing colors of the leaves. Click to edit this placeholder text.
I was recently featured in a Kare 11 report about the FTC suing Ticketmaster for continuing to abuse their powers at consumer expense. The law I authored to protect consumers from unscrupulous practices has had a positive effect in giving more power to the consumers and the Attorney General to take action. However, it’s clear that more needs to be done, and I’m grateful to see some action in court.
I’ve worked hard to center survivors in my legislative work, including working to dismantle barriers to justice and elevating the voices of those most impacted by crime. I’ve authored and supported legislation to improve sexual assault investigations, to ensure victim survivor access to advocacy services, and to strengthen orders for protection. I’m honored to have received the Alliance Ally Award by the Minnesota Alliance on Crime. I am committed to making our state safer for everyone and look forward to continuing that work into the future
The Minnesota DFL has passed laws that reduce gun violence in Minnesota and is working on additional legislation. As a part of that effort, we created a survey where you can tell us your personal experience with gun violence. Many of the ways in which gun violence impacts our society occur on more personal levels and don’t get a lot of media attention. We are hoping to shine a light on these stories to raise awareness of the full cost of gun violence. Please take the time to fill out our survey if you have been impacted by gun violence.
Congratulations to the city of Mounds View for the creation of a Tribute Park that honors veterans, first responders, and the victims of three local tragedies where residents lost their lives: the 1965 Tornado, 1986 Gas Line Explosion, and 2008 35W Bridge Collapse. You can learn more about the park here.
If you are or know a high school junior or college student interested in the Minnesota Legislature, consider applying to the 2026 House High School Page Program! It’s a great way to get an up close look at how a bill becomes a law, advances out of committee, and passes during a House Floor session. Learn more here. The deadline to apply is December 4.
The Trump Administration has taken a number of alarming actions recently. A recent AP article details how Trump and his allies are taking authoritative action to limit the independence and rights of the media. Independent journalism is critical to the health of a free democratic society. It is protected by the First Amendment. We simply cannot accept this turn towards dictatorial power, and it is up to all of us to speak out and peacefully resist actions that eliminate our democracy.
