Legislative Update from Rep. Robert BiermanDear Neighbors, I hope this email finds you well and that you had an enjoyable Fourth. Our District 56 Town Hall is coming up on the 11th. I hope you can join us! Ahead of the holiday, I had the chance to visit with the staff at the mother-baby center and the emergency department at Maple Grove Hospital. They shared with me the hurdles they're facing with new federal laws and policy changes, and a vision for an expansion project, but financial strains are proving challenging. We are seeing firsthand the impacts of President Trump's "Big Ugly Betrayal" AKA: HR1 and how it's limiting access to care. Minnesotans deserve better, and I'm working to expand opportunities for everyone. New Laws Taking Effect in JulySeveral new laws, mostly from this session, took effect on July 1st. These include requiring social media platforms to display mental health warnings, helping schools establish anonymous threat reporting systems so students and families can safely report concerning behavior, and making new investments in security and services for crime victims. We’ve been working to improve public safety, support families, and ensure Minnesotans have the resources they can afford and protections they deserve. There’s more to do, and I continue to work on positive progress for Apple Valley. Community Coffee Hour with Special Guest Dakota County Elections DirectorOpportunity and democracy go hand in hand, which is why it's so important for us to take this civic duty seriously. Regardless of who you vote for, everyone’s voices can shape the future we want to build together. That’s why I’m hosting a community coffee hour with an elections expert (and 4th-generation descendant of Abraham Lincoln!), Michelle Blue. Fortunately for us, Ms. Blue also serves as the Dakota County Elections Director, overseeing our voting infrastructure, including updated electronic voting machines, absentee voting, early voting, and more. Mark your calendars for this informational and nonpartisan event. All are welcome. Last Community Coffee Hour of the Year- July 25Please also save the date, for Saturday, July 25 at 9:00 a.m., at Curiouser Coffee (14889 Florence Trail, Apple Valley, MN 55124) to join this conversation and my last coffee hour of the year. Keep in TouchThis is the final newsletter you’ll receive from me until 2027. Minnesota law requires that certain official communications halt 60 days after legislative adjournment in election years to not give an unfair advantage to incumbents. However, you can still reach out to my office with any questions, comments, and concerns. I can be reached at rep.robert.bierman@house.mn.gov or by phone at 651-296-5506. If you see me out and about in Apple Valley, please say hello. Thank you for the honor of representing you in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Sincerely, Robert Bierman State Representative |
