I hope you’re staying safe and warm through this cold snap. With the dangerous subzero temperatures, please be sure to check in on your neighbors, especially those who are most vulnerable, like seniors or those with disabilities. If you know of anyone needing help paying their heating bills, there are resources available here. Dakota County also has housing resources for folks needing shelter.
Since my swearing in at the Capitol earlier this month, I’ve hit the ground running working with my colleagues to find reasonable solutions and better, bipartisan outcomes to issues that affect our community. I appreciated hearing from everyone at the Apple Valley Listening Session on January 14. The input was very helpful and productive and I look forward to hosting another opportunity to gather more feedback.
Below is an update on what I’ve been working on in St. Paul.
Committee Work
I’m pleased to share that I’m serving on the following committees this session: Education Policy; Education Finance Division; Property and Local Tax Division; and the State Government Finance Division.
I’ve sponsored and co-sponsored a handful of bills, three of which had public hearings in the Health and Human Services Finance Committee this week. House Files 147, 148 & 189 expand the scope of Community Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to better and more efficiently serve those who need ambulance services. As a first responder and emergency medical provider myself, I’ve seen firsthand the barriers EMTs face with current law preventing them from using basic, necessary, lifesaving measures. All three of my bills have bipartisan support.
Minnesotans deserve quality care from trained professionals and I’m committed to ensuring they have access to it, especially in times of emergencies.
EMS Panel in Duluth
Last Friday, I served on a legislative panel at the Arrowhead EMS Association Conference & Expo in Duluth, which is attended each year by more than 600 emergency medical professionals from a diverse blend of disciplines. Senator Simonson, Rep. Zerwas and I had the opportunity to talk with attendees and listen to their concerns and priorities around policies that impact emergency medical care.
Constituent Visit
This week I met with constituents who visited St. Paul for Credit Union Day at the Capitol. It was great hear about all the good work they are doing to serve our community.
