Great to meet with constituents from Be the Match

Yesterday evening the Minnesota House of Representatives passed two key bills related to affordable insulin access and voter privacy. You can read more about these measures below.

Survey

Please take a moment to share your input with me by taking a short survey about the issues you care about most. Hearing from you helps me deliver the results our communities deserve.

Minnesota House Passes Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act

The Alec Smith Insulin Affordability Act was approved in the House. Minnesotans shouldn’t lose their lives because they can’t afford the lifesaving medications they need. Now that the House has passed the bill with bipartisan support, we need to work with our colleagues in the Senate to pass it, and we should do it quickly – lives are at stake. This bill puts patients first and ensures Minnesotans can get the insulin they need at a price they can afford.

Securing Privacy for Voters

Minnesotans have asked the Legislature to protect their privacy with the upcoming presidential primary. I’ve heard from many of you about this issue, which is why I support legislation that would give voters the ability to opt-out of sharing their party preference in the presidential primary, while also restricting the sharing of that data only to a national party representative, and only for the purpose of verifying participation in the primary. The bill passed in the House yesterday and I hope the Senate will join us to address these concerns. Primary Day is next Tuesday, March 3.

Gun Violence Prevention

Minnesotans deserve to be safe at work, school, while they’re worshipping, shopping, seeing a movie or a concert, or in any other space. Last year, I coauthored legislation to enact two common-sense measures that have broad support in our state and across the country. The two bills would require criminal background checks and establish extreme risk protection orders to help keep guns out of the hands of people who have proven themselves to be dangerous. These initiatives are working well in other states, and are supported by law enforcement, health professionals, and the majority of Minnesotans, many of whom are gun owners.

I will continue supporting these bills because a ‘yes’ vote will help keep us all safer and will help prevent more senseless tragedy.
