Legislative Update- June 11, 2021

Friday, June 11, 2021

Rep. Huot

Dear Neighbors,

First and foremost, I’d like to congratulate all of the high school graduates in ISD #196! As frustrating as this last year has been, we have all worked hard to find new ways to learn, function, and connect with each other. I’m confident you will be able to meet the new challenges we face because of the education you received both outside and inside the classroom, and because of the unique circumstances of your high school graduation. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors, wherever your path takes you.

Working groups continue to meet to find compromise on various components of the state budget. In my role as a member of the Legacy Conference Committee, I have been working with House and Senate members to balance this area of the budget. The House position has always been to prioritize ways we can leverage our Constitutionally dedicated Legacy dollars, so we can protect and enhance our strong tradition of outdoor and cultural heritage across the state. We’re making steady progress in anticipation of our upcoming special session on June 14. In between our meetings, I have been out and about in the community, connecting with neighbors.

Welcome, Lucky Nutrition!

I was honored to have been a part of the green ribbon cutting on the new shake shop, Lucky Nutrition, in downtown Rosemount next to the Post Office. The new establishment offers teas, meal replacement shakes and more. Give this new small business a try today. I look forward to trying their Mint Chip shake!

COVID-19 Vaccine Update: How can I get my child vaccinated?

I’ve received several correspondences from community members about how they can get their child vaccinated. In early May, the FDA approved use of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12-15. Moderna has asked the FDA to clear use of their vaccine for children ages 12-17. Clinic trials are underway for children 5 and under.

Dakota County Public Health is an excellent resource if you’re looking to schedule an appointment for child, or a family member older than 12. Check out the online portal with locations, eligibility, hours, and scheduling here. Don’t hesitate to contact my office if you need assistance.

Free Parks Saturday

Tomorrow, June 12, admission at all of Minnesota’s 75 state parks and recreation areas will be free. This is one of four such days the Department of Natural Resources offers annually. Get outside and explore everything our great state has to offer. A full map of state parks is available here.

Leprechaun Days and Freedom Days

I’m pleased to share both Rosemount’s Leprechaun Days and Apple Valley’s Freedom Days are on this year! Leprechaun Days runs June 16-25, and Freedom Days goes from June 30-July 4. Click on each link for a schedule of events, and one of my favorites, the parades!
