Release: Rep. Huot Attends Bison Refuge Groundbreaking at Spring Lake Park Reserve

Friday, July 30, 2021

St. Paul, MN - Today, Representative John Huot (DFL-Rosemount) joined Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins in Rosemount for the groundbreaking of the bison preservation efforts underway at Spring Lake Park Reserve. Rep. Huot supported $560,000 in state grant funding for fenced padlocks so community members and state visitors can safely enjoy the bison species. The Dakota County Board voted last week to advance a plan that will safely make 130 acres of Spring Lake Park Reserve in Rosemount a new home to 15 American Plains bison.

"This is an exciting day for our community and state,” remarked Rep. Huot. “Spring Lake Park Reserve will be a wonderful home to the bison and I’m glad we were able to partner with the state and county to make these critical preservation investments for habitat improvements.”

The grant is funded through the Environment & Natural Resources Trust Fund, which was approved by Minnesota voters in 1988 through passage of constitutional amendment. Money is generated to the Trust from the Minnesota State Lottery.
