Dear Neighbors,

I hope this newsletter finds you well in our waning summer days. Although we’re not in session, the work continues, and it’s been nice to check in with, and hear from neighbors and our local electeds throughout our communities. Here's some news from our district and the Capitol:

The long-awaited grand opening of the Tree Top Trail at the Minnesota Zoo was a highlight of the summer. As the chief author of this incredible project, I’m filled with great joy and pride to partner with the Zoo, local community members, and Dakota County in completion of the world’s longest elevated pedestrian loop.

The Tree Top Trail is a game-changer, offering an unparalleled adventure through the breathtaking canopy of our native forests and the Zoo’s residents. You'll have the opportunity to explore and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature like never before. ????If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, I highly recommend making a trip to the zoo in the near future.

Apple Valley Village Health Center Receives Significant State Funding

As nursing homes continue to struggle post-pandemic, the DFL-led legislature prioritized investments to ensure our older Minnesotans are getting the care they need and deserve. Locally, as a result, earlier this month, $437,838 was delivered to Apple Valley Village Health Center as part of a bipartisan agreement we passed at the Capitol. These funds will help protect quality care as our older loved ones age in place.

John in the Park on Saturday

I’m hosting another casual community gathering, ‘John in the Park’ this Saturday, August 19th at 10:00 a.m. in Apple Valley. We’ll meet for an hour in Farquar Park; feel free to stop by to share what’s on your mind or ask any questions. Everyone is welcome to attend this nonpartisan event for a productive conversation.

Storm Damage Resources

The Minnesota Department of Commerce, which provides consumers with protections and enforces insurance laws for the State of Minnesota, offers Minnesotans guidance on steps to take when filing an insurance claim after storms damage their home, business or other property in last Friday’s hail storm. The Department has a guide you can review at the Minnesota Department of Commerce Disaster Information Center

Key tips for filing insurance claims to your property:

  1. Contact your insurance company immediately.
  2. Wait for the company’s adjuster before you or anyone starts working to remove or repair or replace property.
  3. Inventory your damage.
  4. Take notes of who you talk with and what they say from your insurance company, adjusters or repair services. Note dates, names and contact information.
  5. Avoid scammers or high-pressure sales tactics if you are contacted by someone you don’t know, such as salespeople going door-to-door in areas hit by storms.

Question or complaint about your insurance company?

If you have questions, complaints or problems with your insurance company, contact the Minnesota Department of Commerce Consumer Services Center:
