Legislative Update - May 9, 2019

Thursday, May 9, 2019
Neighbors,

We're the only state in the nation with a politically-split legislature, which means we have a big task ahead of us reconciling differences between our House budget, and the Republican-led Senate’s.

We now have to come together in conference committees to get the Republican-led Senate to come to the negotiating table on our House budget, a comprehensive, inclusive plan to lift up our communities by investing in the things that will allow people to work, live, raise a family, and have opportunities to succeed.

Housing
We also passed a Housing Policy bill on the floor this week. We are listening to your concerns about the growing crisis Minnesota is facing and in our budget we invest in everything from homelessness, rental assistance programs, housing preservation, new development and affordable home ownership. You can read more about our policy bill here

There are a lot of landlords on the Republican side of the aisle - we stood against their opposition and advocated for renters' rights

As budget negotiations at the Legislature ramp up, we need to call on the Senate to make a choice about the world we want to live in - one that makes things easier for the people at the top, or one that takes care of the families and working people across our state who are struggling to make ends meet.

Thanks for reading - feel free to reach out with questions and comments as we reach the end of the legislative session!

Sincerely,

Mohamud Noor
