House Queer Caucus Statement on 7th Anniversary of Pulse Night Club Shooting

Monday, June 12, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today marks the seventh anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Florida on June 12, 2016, a horrific act of violence that claimed the lives of 49 innocent people and injured 53 more.

The Minnesota House Queer Caucus released the following statement:

“We honor the lives of the victims of the Pulse shooting, and we continue to grieve with their families and friends. We also remember the survivors of the shooting, who have shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of tragedy.

The Pulse shooting was a senseless act of hate against LGBTQIA2S+ community, and all our communities. It was a national tragedy and a reminder that despite the progress we have made for queer rights, we still face real and persistent violence.

We will never forget the victims of the Pulse shooting, or the love and support our nation showed each other in the aftermath of the tragedy. We honor every LGBTQIA2S+ and gender-expansive life that came before us, and we work every day for those yet to come.

The Queer Caucus will continue to fight for equality and justice, and we will work fiercely towards a future where nothing like the violence at Pulse happens again.”
