Dear Neighbors,

On January 23rd, tens of thousands of Minnesotans came together to peacefully protest. Minnesota has been terrorized by the federal government for months, but Minnesotans have stood up, defended one another, and reminded the world why our state is so special. Until ICE stops occupying our state and our streets are safe again from the federal government, Minnesotans will continue to use their rights to peacefully protest.

One day after this peaceful protest, federal agents killed yet another Minnesotan in broad daylight. Alex Pretti was a neighbor, a son, an ICU nurse who cared for veterans. Alex was a good man, and GOP elected officials at all levels have started attacking his character and making ridiculous statements based on no truth to somehow justify what we can all see on video. There’s no justification; Alex should be alive today. He and his family don’t deserve this.

FamilyStatement

Our community has been a steady focus of ICE, disrupting businesses, schools, and our ability to worship, and is being terrorized in an unprecedented manner. For the health and well-being of our community and our state, ICE must leave Minnesota immediately.

Enough is enough.

Just this morning, the federal government arrested two journalists. We’re in a terrifying moment in our nation’s history, where the federal administration is more concerned with spreading propaganda than reporting facts of the case. We see with our eyes and think for ourselves - and we can’t take the administrations’ comments at face value anymore. They’ve lost all credibility – and people are noticing and calling that out.

There’s work to be done. In the House, DFLers are working on bills for this session to protect Minnesotans’ rights and hold these federal agents accountable - however this doesn’t meet the immediate need to get ICE out of our state.

We’re on the ground in our communities, supporting mutual aid, food banks, and rapid response, as well as sharing the information and resources our constituents need. We are not in this alone, we have been joined by state officials from 27 states, from ruby red to deep blue, in opposition to the federal administration’s actions.

PressConference

Every day, we’re doing our best to do our part - as should every elected official. We’re calling on our GOP colleagues to stand up for Minnesota, even when it means breaking with what Trump wants.

Thank you to everyone in our community who is speaking out, protesting, donating time and money, and defending our state. I’m right there with you, and I will continue to be no matter how long this takes.
