Rep. Patricia Mueller Highlights Literacy Work During Dyslexia Awareness Month
St. Paul, MN — Today, Governor Walz proclaimed October as Dyslexia Awareness Month in Minnesota, a time to highlight the importance of strong literacy instruction and to recognize the one in five students who live with dyslexia. Representative Patricia Mueller (R-Austin) has been a leading advocate for literacy reforms at the Capitol and continues to champion policies that give every student the tools they need to succeed.
Rep. Mueller played a key role in the passage of the READ Act, landmark legislation that requires Minnesota schools to use evidence-based reading instruction rooted in the science of reading. The goal is to ensure every child has access to effective literacy education, particularly those who struggle with dyslexia and other reading challenges.
“Reading is the foundation for learning and the key to opportunity,” said Rep. Mueller. “When we fail to give children the tools to read, we hold them back from reaching their potential. Dyslexia Awareness Month is a reminder that with the right instruction, all students can learn to read and thrive.”
