St. Paul, Minn. – Yesterday there was a domestic violence-related mass casualty event near Loring Park in Minneapolis at the Shoreline Apartments. The Minnesota House Minneapolis Delegation released the following statement in response:
“We are horrified and heartbroken by the shooting incident at Shoreline Apartments which resulted in the deaths of residents Muse Abdi Afrah and Dale Henry Spry and six others wounded, including three officers. The gunman, Carlton Johnson, was also killed. No one should have this happen in their home, and we offer our hearts to the victims and their loved ones. We are grateful for the swift action of first responders to restore safety to the area and render aid at great personal risk. It is a terrible shame that this tragic event occurred, particularly in a vibrant neighborhood which has seen improvements in public safety thanks to strong community action.
While many details are still unknown, we do know that gun violence and domestic violence is all too common. Our residents have loudly and clearly voiced their desire for common sense gun violence prevention policies including those to more easily remove firearms from dangerous individuals. As more context of this shooting emerges, we will continue to work with the City and our community to examine policies to better prevent shootings like this from happening again.”
