After a brief pause due to the Supreme Court’s ruling on quorum requirements, committees are buzzing, bills are moving, and the House floor is heating up as we dive into the issues that matter most to you. While some continue to avoid accountability for their actions—whether it’s enabling fraud or pushing for tax hikes—we’re laser-focused on what really matters. Republicans are bringing forward solutions to tackle waste, lower costs, and make sure our communities stay safe. We’ve hit the ground running with major hearings, and we’re not backing down. Let’s keep the momentum going and push forward to build a better, more affordable future for Minnesota! The work ahead is big, but I’m excited and ready to take it on with you all by my side. Let’s get it done! House File 5: Putting More Money Back in Your Pocket!I am beyond excited to introduce House File 5—a bold step toward making Minnesota more affordable for everyone! It's time to ease the financial strain that many of us feel, and this bill is packed with practical solutions to do just that. Here’s a quick look at what we’re bringing to the table: Wave Goodbye to the Delivery Fee: Let’s face it—delivery fees are an extra cost we all could do without! House File 5 proposes to eliminate these fees on online purchases, making your shopping experience just a little bit easier on the wallet. Whether you're stocking up on household essentials or indulging in a few online treats, this change will help make your purchases more affordable. Tax Relief for Seniors—Exempting Social Security Income: For many retirees, Social Security is a crucial part of their income, and we believe it should go further. This bill proposes to exempt Social Security income from state taxes, giving our seniors a break and allowing them to keep more of what they’ve earned. It's a small change with a big impact on quality of life! Lowering Vehicle License Tab Fees: No one likes paying high license tab fees, especially when they add up year after year. House File 5 takes action to reduce the vehicle license tab fee, helping drivers keep more money in their pockets and making owning a car just a little more affordable. I’m thrilled to be pushing forward on these common-sense changes that will make life in Minnesota a little easier for hardworking families, seniors, and anyone who could use a little extra financial breathing room. It’s time to take action and make Minnesota the affordable place we all know it can be. Together, let’s build a state where every Minnesotan can thrive. Powering Up with PKM Electric Cooperative This week, I had the chance to sit down with PKM Electric Cooperative, and let me tell you—they’re truly powering our communities in more ways than one! From keeping the lights on for families and businesses to tackling the challenges of an evolving energy landscape, their work is essential to our region. We talked about grid reliability, energy affordability, and the unique challenges rural electric providers face. It’s clear that PKM is dedicated to delivering reliable, affordable power to the people who depend on it every day. A huge thank you to PKM Electric Cooperative for the insightful conversation and for all you do to keep Minnesota shining bright! Protecting Fairness in Girls' SportsAs someone who grew up playing sports, I know firsthand the impact they can have on a young person’s life—teaching confidence, discipline, and the power of teamwork. Sports are more than just games; they’re about building lifelong friendships and learning how to overcome challenges. But for those lessons to truly matter, the competition has to be fair. That’s why I’m excited to support House File 12, the Preserving Girls' Sports Act, authored by Rep. Peggy Scott. This bill makes sure that girls’ sports stay just that—for girls—by requiring that only biological females can compete in female-designated teams at the elementary and secondary school levels. We all know that the issue of fairness in sports isn’t a new conversation. In fact, a recent executive order from President Biden reaffirmed what many of us already understand: only females assigned at birth should compete in women’s sports. Yet, despite this clear guidance, the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) has been hesitant to take action, citing possible conflicts with state law. That’s where House File 12 comes in. It’s a straightforward bill that ensures our state law reflects common sense and protects the integrity of girls’ sports. This isn’t about excluding anyone—it’s about making sure that young women have a fair shot at success, without having to compete against biological males who have physical advantages in many sports. We can see the biological differences in high school sports records—like the five-foot gap in the boys’ long jump, the seven-second gap in the 400-meter dash, and the 11-foot difference in shot put. These aren’t just statistics—they highlight the need for clear and consistent rules that support female athletes. I’m not doing this for political reasons—I’m doing it because it matters to me as a father of two daughters. I want them—and all young women—to know that their hard work and accomplishments in sports are valued. We owe it to our daughters, granddaughters, and every future female athlete to protect the fairness of girls’ sports. Let’s keep fighting to make sure that opportunities in athletics are available to all girls, where they can compete on a level playing field. CAPLP’s Visit: A Great Chat and Big Ideas! I had a fantastic time meeting with the team from Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership (CAPLP) here at the Capitol! They’re doing amazing work to fight poverty and empower families in our community, and it was great to hear about all the impactful programs they’re running. From discussing new ways to support housing, education, and economic development, to brainstorming ideas for future collaboration, the energy was contagious! I’m so excited to keep working together to make our community stronger, healthier, and more connected. Big thanks to CAPLP for the inspiring work they’re doing, and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together in the future!
