Legislative Update Dear neighbors, We’re officially in the home stretch—just eight days left until adjournment, and things at the Capitol are moving fast! Before we sprint to the finish line, I want to take a moment to say a sincere thank you. It is truly an honor to serve as your voice in St. Paul. I’m grateful for your trust, your support, and your engagement. You show up, you stay informed, and you make your voices heard. And if that’s the measure of a strong district, then ours is absolutely top-tier. Over these final eight days I'll be fighting hard and working to deliver real wins for our communities while making sure your priorities remain front and center at the Capitol. Thank you for being part of this journey. It’s an honor I don’t take lightly. Turning the Tide on Fraud & Restoring Accountability in Minnesota Minnesota has been rocked by fraud scandal after fraud scandal. These failures made national headlines, triggered FBI investigations and raids, and exposed millions of taxpayer dollars vanishing under the watch of Gov. Walz and Democrat leadership. One of the biggest issues I continue to hear from you back home is that fraud has been allowed to flourish under the Walz Administration’s watch for far too long. Minnesotans have every reason to be upset. Well, the Walz Administration has finally heard the people of Minnesota loud and clear, and they can no longer turn a blind eye to the blatant negligence that got us here. After ending the Democrat trifecta in 2024, House Republicans made stopping fraud and restoring accountability one of our top priorities this session. You may remember me discussing the push to create an Independent Office of the Inspector General earlier this year. And I am proud to report that this legislation officially passed off the House floor this week in a bipartisan vote 127-5. This is a major win for taxpayers. This bill establishes a truly independent Office of Inspector General with real law enforcement authority to investigate waste, fraud, and abuse across state government. That enforcement authority was critical, and unfortunately, it became one of the biggest sticking points throughout negotiations. Truth be told, there was a tremendous amount of pushback from the DFL on this legislation. Gov. Walz and House Democrats attempted to weaken the bill at nearly every turn; from trying to water it down, to pushing to remove its law enforcement authority altogether. We held the line, fought to keep the bill strong, and ultimately got them to cave on those demands. That's something I am super proud of. The reality is, much of this fraud could have been prevented years ago if oversight had been taken seriously from the start. Unfortunately, it wasn’t, and hardworking Minnesotans were left paying the price. Roughly 15 to 20 states already have statewide Offices of Inspector General with broad authority to investigate fraud, waste, and abuse across executive agencies. Minnesota is long overdue to join them. This bill sends a message that the days of looking the other way are over. Accountability is back! And House Republicans will keep fighting every day to protect taxpayer dollars and restore the people's trust in state government. Seeing Things Clearly: A Practical Update for Medical Tinting Wednesday night’s late night on the floor brought in a big common sense win for Minnesotans across the state. I am excited to report that Senate File 3637 passed the House unanimously, and I was honored to carry it over on the House side. Right now, Minnesotans with legitimate medical needs can qualify for certain window tint exemptions, but only if the paperwork comes from a physician. This bill updates the law to reflect modern practice by also allowing licensed optometrists to provide that medical documentation when appropriate. That’s it. No gimmicks. No fluff. Just a smart, overdue update that recognizes optometrists as qualified medical professionals in this space and helps patients get the care (and accommodations) they need without unnecessary hurdles. At its best, good legislation doesn’t make headlines—it removes red tape, fixes outdated language, and makes everyday life work a little smoother for the people we serve. This is exactly that kind of bill. Grateful to help move this one across the finish line. Faith, Service, and Gratitude On this National Day of Prayer, we took a pause from our work on the House floor to thank the Lord for the many blessings He has poured out on our country and communities across Minnesota. I was grateful to stand alongside fellow legislators in prayer for wisdom, humility, and discernment as we work through the final stretch of session. No matter where we come from or what district we represent, we all share the same goal: serving the people of Minnesota and working toward a stronger future for our state. Thankful for the opportunity to come together in prayer on such a beautiful day and continue the work of delivering results for Minnesotans! A Weekend Worth Celebrating! As we head into another beautiful Minnesota spring weekend, I want to take a moment to wish all of the moms across our state a very Happy Mother’s Day. Mothers are the foundation of our families, the steady hands that hold everything together, and the heart behind so many of life’s greatest blessings. I am especially thankful for my own mother and for my wonderful wife, Stephanie. She is the rock of our family, my biggest supporter, and someone I could never thank enough for all that she does. I could not be more grateful for her and for the beautiful life we’ve built together. And of course, it wouldn’t be May in Minnesota without Fishing Opener! For all of our anglers heading out this weekend, I hope the fish are biting and you get to enjoy some well-earned time with family and friends on one of Minnesota’s greatest treasures, our beautiful lakes.
