Reps. Ben Davis and Mike Wiener Announce Hearing to Establish Impeachment Process for Walz and EllisonSt. Paul — Representatives Ben Davis (R-Merrifield) and Mike Wiener (R-Long Prairie) announced that the House will hold a hearing today at 10:15 a.m. in the House Rules and Legislative Administration Committee (Capitol G23) to establish the process for impeachment proceedings concerning Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison. House Resolutions 6 and 7 call for impeachment based on allegations of corrupt conduct in office, failure to faithfully execute the law, and abuse of power, particularly in connection with widespread fraud in state programs. “When the Attorney General meets with individuals tied to the largest child nutrition scam in American history, offers to run interference for them against state agencies, and then takes their money just nine days later, it is not constituent service. This has the appearance of corrupt conduct. He then denied it when asked under oath before Congress,” said Rep. Ben Davis. Rep. Mike Wiener said the case for impeaching the Governor comes down to a clear failure of leadership. “Billions of taxpayer dollars were lost to fraud on his watch, despite repeated warnings,” said Rep. Mike Wiener. “When a Governor ignores red flags, allows fraud to continue, and fails to act, that is a failure to faithfully execute the law and a breach of public trust.” Wiener added that the Legislature has a responsibility to act. “Impeachment is about accountability,” Wiener said. “If we’re not willing to act here, then the standards in our Constitution don’t mean anything.” Media Availability: Rep. Davis and Rep. Wiener will be available for comment following the hearing. ### |
