Dear Neighbor, This week, Minnesota Minnesota Management and Budget released a new state budget forecast that showed a $2.4 billion surplus heading into next session, but a $2.3 billion deficit beginning in 2025. This abrupt change is due largely to the spending spree by Democrats last session. Last session, Democrats spent a historic budget surplus of $17.5 billion. Instead of returning that surplus to Minnesotans in the form of permanent, meaningful tax relief, they instead raised taxes by $10 billion. While family budgets were shrinking because of increased cost of living and record inflation, Democrats grew government by 40%. Now, the forecast is showing the results of that out-of-control, tax-and-spend mentality: a deficit. It's time to get government spending under control and budget Minnesotans' hard-earned tax dollars wisely, instead of wasting money on pet projects and a massive increase in spending. |
