Funding for Highway 65 Introduced

Friday, January 27, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

We are continuing our efficient legislative pace as we move to enact much needed laws for our wonderful state. Here is some of what I worked on this week!

Once again, I’ll encourage you to pass along my newsletter and Facebook page to your neighbors and community members so they can stay in touch with all we are accomplishing.

1. Highway 65 Bill Introduced - Let’s Roll!

  • On Monday, I introduced HF 744 to allocate a total of $130 million in state investment for the redesign, repair and rebuild of intersections and stretches of Highway 65 primarily running through Blaine.
  • This bill would allow for enough funding to complete the planned upgrades to the intersections of Highway 65 and 99th Ave., 105th Ave., 109th Ave., and 117th Ave. It would completely eliminate stop lights along this stretch of roadway.
  • Big thanks to my partners across the aisle who are working with me to get this done. This funding remains my top priority at the Capitol!

2. Eliminate PFAS in Firefighting - Protecting the Protectors

  • You may have heard about polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known as “forever chemicals” which are very toxic. PFAS chemicals are linked to immune system disorders, lower birth weights, infertility, lower IQ in children, thyroid issues, and deadly cancers. If you haven’t, you can learn about them here.
  • We recently announced several bills, the PFAS Prevention Package, to restrict the manufacturing of these forever chemicals and clean them from our environment and water.
  • At this press conference, I introduced my bill to ban all PFAS in firefighting foam. We must protect our heroes from these dangerous chemicals. Watch here.

100% Clean Energy - Fighting for our Future!

  • On Thursday we passed a bill to ensure Minnesota produces 100% clean energy by 2040! We must take action now to protect our future generations.
  • Climate change is having disastrous effects across the globe, including here in Minnesota where we are one of the fastest-warming states in the nation, according to the University of Minnesota.
  • The bill includes cost and reliability offramps, which will ensure we can pursue a carbon free future without hurting Minnesotans. It also emphasizes the creation of local jobs and industry.
