Property Tax Division Hears Norris ‘Supercharged’ Property Tax Refund Bill

Wednesday, March 15, 2023

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives Property Tax Division heard Rep. Matt Norris’s (DFL-Blaine) bill, HF 2725, which would increase homestead property tax refunds. The bill would increase the maximum property tax refund to $2,500 in 2023 if a homeowner's property taxes increase by more than 6% and $2,000 in 2024 and beyond if their property taxes increase by 8% or more. Under current law homeowners qualify for a $1,000 refund if their property taxes increase by 12% or more.

“Skyrocketing property taxes have greatly impacted communities across the state, hurting low income homeowners and seniors on fixed incomes particularly hard. My bill will supercharge the current property tax refund to help more homeowners afford these increasing costs,” said Rep. Norris. “I will continue to push for using part of our surplus to put money back in the pockets of Minnesotans, especially those who need it the most.”

The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in the Property Tax Division report. Video of the testimony and discussion will be uploaded on the House Information Youtube page.
