Representative Norris Attends Groundbreaking of New State Emergency Operations Center

Thursday, October 26, 2023

St. Paul, Minn. – Today, Rep. Matt Norris (DFL - Blaine) joined Governor Walz, Minnesota Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson, Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Kristi Rollwagen, Blaine Police Chief Brian Podany and Anoka County Commissioner Julie Braastad to break ground on a new State Emergency Operations Center.

“It was great joining state officials to break ground on this important facility and welcome it to our community,” said Rep. Norris. “This facility will ensure we can respond to devastating disasters, benefiting residents in need across the state. This is yet another valuable community resource made possible by the historic capital investment bill we passed this session, which I was proud to support. It will also bring jobs and economic development to Blaine”

The State Emergency Operations Center is the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) division’s central command and control facility for supporting communities experiencing disasters and other emergency management incidents. The $41 million project, funded through the 2020 and 2023 capital investment bills, will strengthen Minnesota’s ability to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters.
