Capitol Newsletter from Rep. Andrew Myers

Friday, February 17, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

I am hosting my next in-district office hours tomorrow, Saturday, in Tonka Bay. The event is set to begin at 9:30 AM and we will be meeting at the Caribou Coffee in Tonka Bay located at 5663 Manitou Road.

This is a great time for you to stop by and share any thoughts, questions, or concerns you may have about your state government. Together we can make sure that we are strengthening Your Backyard and working to improve affordability and prosperity for our communities.

If you’re thinking about attending on Saturday, please reach out to me via email.

Addressing Mental Health Crisis

Since taking office in January, I have made it a top priority to address access to mental health care. No other group of individuals has been impacted more by the mental health crisis than our students.

In an effort to address this crisis, I have signed onto legislation that would require mental health crisis phone hotline numbers to be placed on student IDs across Minnesota. This will help reduce the stigmas around mental health and ensure every student knows where to turn in a crisis.

Fighting for Your Backyard

I recently introduced legislation in support of improvements to the Excelsior Commons. The Commons is an important part of the fabric of Excelsior and the entire South Lake community. Projects like this improve the quality of life for all of us and help support local businesses in Excelsior.

A group of students from Kids Core visited the capitol this week. Kids Core is a non-profit organization that serves the Mound-Westonka community. They work with the local school district to provide a safe space for kids to learn and play before and after school, on non-school days, and during the summer. Thanks for visiting!
Myers

I am serving on two task forces in St. Paul aimed at finding workable and reasonable solutions to some of the issues facing Minnesota. One of them deals with paid family and medical leave. This is an issue that is important to all of us and something that I support in principle. What I want to do is find a way forward so that Minnesotans can have access to these important benefits while not hamstringing thousands of small businesses in our state.

Looking into the issue of legalizing recreational marijuana is another task force that I am serving on. This is an issue that has rapidly evolved in recent years as more and more states have legalized recreational cannabis. Please reach out to me to share your thoughts on this issue.

Staying in Touch

If you plan on being in St. Paul sometime soon, I encourage you to reach out to my office to set up a time to meet and chat! It is always my goal to be as responsive as possible to the needs and priorities of you and Your Backyard.

Please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-9188 or via email at rep.andrew.myers@house.mn.gov.

Have a great weekend,

Andrew
