Capitol Newsletter from Rep. Andrew Myers

Thursday, April 20, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

It’s been another busy week in St. Paul as debate and votes on omnibus budget bills have gone late into the night most days. I remain as committed as ever to looking for ways to build bridges and focus on the issues that unite Minnesotans. That’s why I continue to approach each of these budget bills with an open mind and with a commitment to representing the priorities and interests of our communities and Your Backyard.

National Prescription Drug Takeback Day

Myers

National Prescription Drug Takeback Day is this Saturday. This is an opportunity for all of us to clean out our medicine cabinets and safely dispose of prescription drugs that are no longer being used.

The Cub Foods in Shorewood off of Highway 7 will be a dedicated drop-off location in our area and I encourage you to stop by.

Sheriff Dawanna Witt Hennepin County Sheriff's Office will be there to support our community and I plan on stopping by as well. Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

Summer Internship Opportunity!

Calling all Westonka, Minnetonka, Orono, and Wayzata high school students! My office is hosting a summer internship this year. Students who apply can expect to work on writing bills, learning about local businesses, and gaining a deeper understanding of the issues impacting our local communities.

Much of the internship will likely take place back in the district so students will not generally need to drive into St. Paul. This opportunity will be a nonpartisan working group focused on public policy and all political affiliations are welcome.

Please reach out to my office for more information and to apply. More details to come!

Supporting Teachers

On Tuesday, I voted in support of an amendment that would have redirected $400 million in the State Government Finance Budget Bill to the Teachers Retirement Association (TRA) pension plan.

As public employees, teachers play a vital role in preparing future generations for a lifetime of success and opportunity. This amendment would have honored the amazing work they all do and would represent a step in the right direction to addressing the significant issues they are having with their pensions.

I spoke in support of the amendment. Unfortunately, it was voted down because not a single member of the DFL majority here in the House supported it.

Staying in Touch

It was an honor to host the Minnetonka Boys Hockey team last week as we recognized their 2023 Class AA State Tournament Championship. Go Skippers!

If you plan on being in St. Paul sometime soon, I encourage you to reach out to my office to set up a time to meet and chat! It is always my goal to be as responsive as possible to the needs and priorities of you and Your Backyard.

Please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-9188 or via email at rep.andrew.myers@house.mn.gov.

Have a great day,

Andrew
