Legislative Update Fraud Package Update On Monday this week, the Suburban Solutions Caucus rolled out a package of bills focused on cracking down on fraud and protecting taxpayer dollars. One piece of that package, HF 4425, passed the House. It is not flashy, but it is a straightforward fix. It extends the statute of limitations so investigators have more time to track down complex fraud schemes, hold people accountable, and recover money that was meant to support some of the most vulnerable Minnesotans. That is just common sense. Fighting Fraud with a Real Plan This week, the Suburban Solutions Caucus rolled out a comprehensive, layered strategy to combat fraud across Minnesota. Estimates show roughly $9 billion in taxpayer dollars may have been lost across state programs. That should concern everyone. This is not about one bill or one fix. It requires a coordinated approach that prevents fraud before it happens, detects it earlier, and holds people accountable when it does. Our package includes several key proposals: - HF 3578 to strengthen accountability in state government and ensure leadership is held responsible when oversight fails
- HF 4425 my bill, to give investigators more time to pursue complex fraud cases and recover stolen funds
- HF 4104 to improve investigative tools and coordination across agencies
- HF 4950 to ensure those who benefit from fraud face financial penalties
Together, these bills focus on prevention, detection, accountability, and recovery. The goal is simple. Protect taxpayer dollars and make sure they reach the Minnesotans they are meant to serve. Fraud is not a partisan issue. It is a real problem with real consequences for families and communities across our state. This approach is about being proactive instead of reacting after the damage is already done. E-Bike Safety Legislation I am also working on e-bike safety legislation alongside Tom Dippel. One key provision requires riders under 18 to wear a helmet, similar to motorcycle laws. I drafted a bill on this issue last year as well, and I continue to believe we need to get this right. E-bikes are growing in popularity, and we need to make sure our laws keep up. The goal is simple. Keep riders, drivers, and pedestrians safe while still expanding access to transportation and outdoor recreation. Bonding Update I am continuing to advocate for critical local projects as part of the upcoming bonding bill. That includes infrastructure improvements in Spring Park for water, sewer, and a new water tower, along with projects in Mound, Minnetrista, Minnetonka Beach, and Shorewood. These are not abstract investments. They are about clean water, reliable infrastructure, and safe transportation. Our district has more bridges than any other in Hennepin County, and maintaining them is essential. Right now, the bonding outlook is around $1 billion, with a large share going to state-owned assets. As a member of the Capital Investment Committee, I am working with colleagues on both sides and with the Governor’s office to make sure local projects are not overlooked. These investments impact millions of Minnesotans in their daily lives. Supporting Our Veterans I presented legislation this week aimed at improving mental health services for veterans and their families. I am also continuing to push proposals that address affordability, including property tax relief and lower car tab fees for veterans. Minnesota has a responsibility to stand by those who served. These are practical steps we can take to support them both during and after their service. Literacy Day at the Capitol I had the opportunity to participate in Literacy Day at the Capitol, which focused on early learning and supporting our students, educators, and schools. I am proud to co-author legislation that supports these efforts. Investing in literacy is one of the most important things we can do to set kids up for success. Poll Results Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s poll. We received over 400 responses on our district's expectations for the final days of the 2026 legislative session. Your input is incredibly helpful as we work through these decisions at the Capitol.
