Rep. Zeleznikar Introduces Supporting Women Legislation to Reinstate Funding for Pregnancy Resource Centers and Maternity Homes

Saint Paul, MN — After being reappropriated in last year’s budget Representative Natalie Zeleznikar is introducing HF 4601 to support women and fund pregnancy resource centers in Minnesota. Last year $3 million was redirected in the health and human services budget exclusively to Planned Parenthood. This has left many other options for women underfunded. The package of bills also includes $1.5 million in funding to maternity homes that provide crucial support during and post-pregnancy to help mothers who are in need of housing or extra assistance.

“Giving all of the money to just Planned Parenthood reduces the choice that expecting mothers have when there are many options that could be better at pregnancy centers and maternity homes.” Said Rep. Zeleznikar on her legislation. “These centers give women who don’t want to choose abortion options, education, and a support system.”

“Services like career training, ultrasounds, and temporary housing can be the difference between expectant mothers feeling like they have no choice to seeing a path to motherhood or adoption. I want every woman to feel they have the support they need when they are in the midst of the most miraculous process a woman can experience, creating new life.”
