Legislative UpdateDear Northlanders, This week, we heard a number of bills on the House floor, including legislation I authored HF 3832 that clarifies the definition of drug compounding to allow the use of flavoring agents that do not change a medication’s intended purpose. This commonsense change helps improve the taste of medications for patients of all ages, especially young children and individuals experiencing taste changes due to medical conditions, making them easier to take and more effective. After spending 40 years serving seniors and adults with disabilities, I understand how important it is to meet patients where they are to achieve the best outcomes. I’m grateful this bill received strong bipartisan support and passed the House unanimously. Click here to watch the video below. At the same time, federal authorities conducted raids at 22 locations tied to ongoing fraud investigations, many of which we have previously raised concerns about. While I’m thankful for federal action, it’s clear we need stronger accountability measures here at home. We cannot rely solely on the federal government to address these issues. That’s why House Republicans have proposed practical solutions, including the creation of an independent Office of Inspector General with real investigatory and enforcement authority, to prevent fraud before it happens and better protect taxpayer dollars. Additionally, Democrats have introduced legislation that would penalize local governments for flying Minnesota’s historic state flag. House Republicans strongly oppose this effort. Minnesotans should have the freedom to honor our state’s history without fear of government punishment. I’ve also met with many nursing homes throughout the session, and their top concern continues to be the Governor’s proposed cuts to nursing homes and medical assistance programs especially while simultaneously mandating higher wages. Simply put, we cannot expect providers to do more with less. If we want to support our seniors and those who care for them, we must ensure funding keeps pace with these requirements. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. In service, Natalie School Bus Driver AppreciationTuesday was school bus driver appreciation day. My mom was a bus driver for 25 years and drove five routes a day. She and all others made such a difference for students! And now my grandson watches for the bus with his dog! |
