Friends,
History can feel far away until you remember it was made by real people who had homes, families, work to do, and a future they hoped their children would inherit.
That’s what comes to my mind as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
When the signers of the Declaration of Independence put their names on that document, they weren’t dealing in slogans. They took a risk that cost them everything. When Washington’s army endured Valley Forge, when families buried sons after Gettysburg, and when Americans crossed oceans to defeat tyranny, each generation proved its willingness to do hard things for the sake of something greater.
That same American spirit is what turned the dream of flight into reality, split the atom, and carried our nation to the moon. We achieved those things because Americans have always had an unwavering belief that great things are possible, even when others say they can’t be done.
Around here, we understand that good things take work. Farms aren’t built in a season. Businesses don’t grow without risk. Communities don’t stay strong unless people invest in them, raise their families well, serve their neighbors, and teach the next generation to value what’s been handed down.
America has been blessed beyond measure, but those blessings come with responsibility. We have a duty to protect the freedoms we’ve inherited, strengthen the country our children will receive, and keep faith with the principles that have carried us through 250 years of trials and triumphs.
I’m proud to celebrate this Fourth of July in a country that still believes tomorrow can be better than today, and I’m hopeful for the next chapter Americans will write together.
