Minnesota’s latest budget forecast is a reality check, and as your state representative, I’m here to tell it like it is. With a nearly $6 billion deficit looming for the 2028-2029 fiscal year, it’s clear we need a change in course immediately. But here’s the bottom line: I’m not here to dwell on past mistakes. I’m here to fix this.
First, let’s talk about spending. We need to get back to basics and focus on what matters most. That means setting priorities and avoiding the temptation to throw money at every shiny new idea that comes along. It’s time for disciplined budgeting that respects your hard-earned dollars.
Tax relief is another crucial part of the solution. Minnesotans are feeling the squeeze from high taxes and rising costs. I believe we can do better by lowering taxes and creating an environment where businesses thrive and families can keep more of what they earn. That’s not just good policy, it’s common sense. House Republicans have bills such as HF4 and 5, which walk back some of the tax increases from last session.
We also need to rethink how our government operates. We’re pushing for more accountability and review of state programs to make sure they’re effective and efficient. If something isn’t working or is wasteful, we need to fix it or phase it out. It’s about delivering real value for taxpayers and avoiding waste. House Republicans have a major focus on fraud, offering bills such as HF1, 2, and 3, to establish better oversight and accountability for government funded programs.
Finally, economic growth is key. I’m focused on policies that attract businesses, encourage innovation, and build a stronger workforce. By creating a business-friendly environment, we can generate new revenue without raising taxes and putting more pressure on families.
During my campaign, I knocked on doors and listened to the concerns of families, business owners, and workers across our community. The common thread was clear: people are frustrated with the policies that were rushed through in the last two years without fully understanding their impact. From rising costs to burdensome taxes and overcomplicated regulations, these policies are hurting Minnesotans and crushing our communities. As I got to know the people in our neighborhoods, it became evident that these well-intentioned changes have had serious consequences, strangling local businesses, putting families in a financial bind, and leaving our communities struggling to thrive. This is why we need a real change in direction, with common-sense solutions that put people first.
My promise to you is this: I’ll bring a steady hand and a clear focus to the tough decisions ahead. Minnesota needs leadership that’s not afraid to make hard choices and prioritize practical solutions. I’m ready to lead that charge and help build a brighter, more prosperous future for all of us.
