Legislative Update![]() Start your engines—we’re in the final lap of the 2025 legislative session! The House is back in action this week, and with fewer than five weeks until our May 19 adjournment deadline, things are moving faster than a coffee-fueled legislator on a Monday morning! Committee negotiations? Wrapped. Now it’s game time on the House floor as we dive into voting on the big-ticket omnibus bills. This is where all the late nights, page-flipping, and policy deep-dives finally pay off. I’m proud to share that the Agriculture Omnibus Bill passed the House floor on Thursday and is now headed to the Senate for approval. This bill contains key provisions that will support our farmers and rural communities—something I’ll always fight for. And coming up next: the Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill is scheduled for a House floor vote on May 5. We’ll be reviewing critical measures impacting our healthcare system, long-term care, and services for vulnerable Minnesotans. My focus is crystal clear: pass a balanced budget, bring common-sense solutions to the table, and make sure we’re delivering wins for the hardworking folks of Minnesota. It’s crunch time—and I’m ready to finish strong. Let’s do this!
A Night to Remember: My First State of the State![]() Wednesday evening, I had the incredible honor of attending my very first State of the State address—and it’s safe to say, it did not disappoint! To make the night even more special, I was selected to help escort the Governor into the House Chamber for the big event. Talk about a pinch-me moment! There’s something truly electric about standing in that chamber, surrounded by colleagues from both sides of the aisle, reflecting on where we’ve been and where we’re headed. The energy, the tradition, the sense of purpose—it’s all a powerful reminder of why we’re here and who we serve. It was an unforgettable evening, and one I’ll carry with me for a long time. Here’s to the work ahead—and making history, one step (and speech) at a time! ![]() ![]()
USDA to Able-Bodied Adults: “Will Work for Food” Isn’t Just a SloganIn a refreshing nod to common sense, the USDA has reiterated a principle that many Minnesotans hold dear: if you're able to work, you should, especially when receiving government assistance like SNAP.? This aligns with the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, which updated SNAP's mission to not only provide nutritional support but also to assist low-income adults in obtaining employment and increasing their earnings. The Act also gradually expands work requirements to include able-bodied adults without dependents up to age 54, while introducing exemptions for veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, and those aging out of foster care. In a state facing a $6 billion budget deficit, it's heartening to see federal policies that encourage self-sufficiency and responsible use of taxpayer funds. As we continue to support our neighbors in need, let's also champion policies that promote the dignity of work and the value of personal responsibility.
Capitol Cameo: Congressman Brad Finstad!![]() We had a blast earlier this week when Congressman Brad Finstad stopped by the Capitol! Between laughs, handshakes, and a whole lot of Minnesota pride, it was great to catch up and talk shop with one of our favorite folks from D.C. Safe to say—when Brad’s in the building, good vibes and great conversations aren’t far behind!
Breaking News: Democrats Ditch Ambulances for Free Health Care... for Illegal ImmigrantsWhile rural hospitals teeter and ambulance services run on fumes, some in St. Paul are laser-focused on one thing: giving free, taxpayer-funded health insurance to illegal immigrants—and it's costing Minnesotans a tremendous sum of money. What started as a $196 million pet project has ballooned into a $550 million budget monster, now devouring dollars that could’ve kept your local ER open past 5 p.m. Worse? The original estimate of 7,700 enrollees was off by more than half. Over 17,000 illegal immigrants are now riding the MinnesotaCare gravy train, courtesy of you, the taxpayer. And here’s the kicker: since the federal government won’t chip in a dime for these enrollees (the federal government pays 90% of Medicaid for residents), Minnesota taxpayers are stuck footing 100% of the bill. All this while our state stares down a $6 billion budget deficit. Sound like responsible leadership? We don’t think so either. This has become a sticking point in healthcare budget talks, and up to now, neither Republicans nor Democrats are budging. So I ask you residents, should we favor free insurance benefits for illegal immigrants over funding for ambulances, hospitals, and healthcare for residents of Minnesota? Here’s a thought: how about we put Minnesotans first? I plan to fight for fiscal accountability—and maybe a few functioning ambulances while we’re at it. Let’s end the blank checks for those who broke the law to get here and start investing in the people who actually call Minnesota home. You can view our full press conference [HERE].
Bonding, Beans & Big Ideas: A Week on the House Floor![]() This week, I had the distinct honor of presenting not one—but two—bills that hit close to home (and the highway). First up: The Hendrum Bonding Bill (HF 3145) Next stop: The Ag Bill (HF 2446) In a session that started with more gridlock than a Friday on I-94, I’m proud that we found common ground and delivered results that uplift our rural communities!
Cereal Day Chronicles: A Caucus Tradition![]() This Tuesday, I had the pleasure of experiencing my very first Cereal Day here at the Capitol—a time-honored GOP caucus tradition that has won the hearts of everyone in the building. Imagine the joy of a breakfast buffet, but instead of bagels and muffins, it's a cereal smorgasbord! From sugary classics to the crunchy and nutritious, it was a whirlwind of childhood nostalgia mixed with a dash of legislative hustle. Let me tell you, the only thing more colorful than the cereal choices were the smiles of everyone grabbing their morning fix. It’s safe to say, I’m officially a fan—who knew policy and Cheerios went hand in hand? ![]()
Cruisin’ at the Capitol![]() What’s better than a sunny spring day at the Capitol? A sunny spring day with antique cars! We had a wheel-y good time earlier this week admiring the chrome, curves, and craftsmanship of these classic beauties. From Model T’s to muscle cars, it felt like history rolled right up to the front steps—and we were here for it! ![]()
From the House to the Field!![]() Tuesday brought an unexpected twist to my week—in the best way possible! While over at Allianz Field, I had the awesome surprise of running into none other than NFL legend Larry Fitzgerald Jr. himself! Yes, that Larry Fitzgerald—All-Pro wide receiver, Minnesota native, and all-around sports icon. I’m not saying I was starstruck…but let’s just say I was glad I didn’t try to challenge him to a footrace. (Spoiler: I would not have won.) Moments like these are such a fun reminder of the connections we all share here in Minnesota—whether on the football field or the legislative floor, we’re all working to make this state great. Still smiling from that encounter. Thanks for the surprise, Larry!
