Interim Update

God's Promise

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you've all enjoyed another beautiful week here in Northern Minnesota.

Recently, I looked out over rich Minnesota farmland and was greeted by a stunning double rainbow stretching across the sky. The only word I could find to describe it was miraculous. Every time I see a rainbow, it lifts my spirits because it reminds me of God's promise to His people—a promise of faithfulness, hope, and the assurance that even after the darkest storms, brighter days will come. It's a reminder I carry with me, especially during challenging seasons.

Not long after, while out for a run on one of our local trails, I came across this tree whose branches had been snapped off in a windstorm. Now it has fresh colorful shoots springing up from its dead-looking stump—new life growing where it seemed impossible.

Life has a way of bringing storms our way. We all face setbacks, disappointments, hardships, and moments when the future feels uncertain. Yet time and again, we witness the resilience that God has placed within us. Just as that tree found a way to grow again, we too are capable of renewal, perseverance, and growth.

In many ways, it reminded me of Minnesota. Our state has weathered its fair share of challenges in recent years, but I continue to see signs of hope all around us—in our families, our churches, our small businesses, our farmers, and our communities. Minnesotans are resilient people. We know how to work hard, help and care for our neighbors, and keep moving forward even when the road isn't easy.

As we enjoy these summer days, my prayer is that you find encouragement in the simple reminders God places before us: a rainbow after the rain, new growth after a storm, and the quiet assurance that brighter days are ahead. No matter what challenges you may be facing today, never lose sight of the hope that tomorrow can bring.

Wishing you and your family a blessed weeked ahead.

What Comes After the Storm

Let me ask you a few questions.

Have you been traveling outside Minnesota lately and felt a little embarrassed when someone brought up the fraud scandals, government waste, or headlines that have put our state in the national spotlight for all the wrong reasons?

Have you felt your pride in being a Minnesotan diminish, even just a little?

Have you wondered whether Minnesota is still headed in the right direction?

If so, you are not alone.

The frustration I hear from people across our communities is real. Families are working hard, paying their taxes, raising their children, volunteering in their churches, and doing their part. They expect their government to do the same. When that trust is broken, it leaves people wondering whether anyone is truly listening.

My message to you is simple: Hang in there.

There is an old saying that "the darkest hour is just before the dawn." Whether or not that's technically true, the principle certainly is. Sometimes problems have to become impossible to ignore before people are willing to confront them and demand something better.

Minnesota is at one of those moments.

The challenges facing our state have exposed serious shortcomings, but they have also created an opportunity—a chance to rebuild public trust and restore confidence in the institutions that serve us.

Trust is not created through speeches or catchy slogans. It is earned.

It is built through honesty, so people know they are being told the truth.

It is built through competence, so taxpayers can have confidence that their hard-earned dollars are being protected from fraud, waste, and abuse.

It is built through humility, by listening carefully, learning from mistakes, and remaining accountable to the people we serve.

And ultimately, it is built through results.

At the end of the day, results are what matter most.

Minnesotans want to see criminals who steal from public programs held accountable. They want safeguards that prevent fraud before it happens. They want government to spend wisely, taxes and fees to remain affordable, and regulations that make sense. They want policies that encourage work, strengthen families, and preserve opportunities for future generations.

Most of all, they want a government worthy of their trust.

I believe Minnesota's best days are still ahead of us. Like the tree stump sprouting new life after a storm, renewal is possible. Our state is filled with hardworking, generous, resilient people who care deeply about their communities and their neighbors.

I would love to hear from you. What issues matter most to your family? Where should we focus our efforts? What do you believe Minnesota must do to build a stronger future?

Your voice matters, and I hope you'll continue to share it with me.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name (Or Will in About Three Minutes)

As always, if you see me out and about in the district, please don't hesitate to stop and say hello. In fact, I'd be disappointed if you didn't. It's one of the things I love most about living in Greater Minnesota.

St. Paul has its place. There's plenty of politics, taxes, bills, votes, committee hearings, meetings, and meetings about meetings.

But once you get outside the 494/694 loop, things start to change.

Then you head farther north, and the world changes again.

Out here, life is still about family, friends, neighbors, and community. You can walk into a restaurant knowing absolutely nobody and leave twenty minutes later with three new friends, an invitation to a fishing opener, and an update on somebody's cousin's tractor.

That's just how we do things.

When a farmer is having trouble getting his crop off due to illness, injury, or other disaster, people don’t wait to see what happens next. They simply show up and help. That's the North Country way. When something needs to be done, folks come together and take care of it.

It's a spirit you won't find everywhere, and it's something worth protecting.

I never take for granted the opportunity to represent this district and the hardworking, generous, and resilient people who call it home. Whether we're talking at a local café, seeing each other at a community event, or passing on a gravel road, those conversations remind me why I do this job.

Thank you for the trust you've placed in me.

Have a great weekend, and I'll see you around.
