House GOP takes legal action on Constitutionally-allowed motions ST. PAUL — House Republicans filed a suit against Secretary of State Steve Simon based on his refusal to recognize filed motions from duly-elected House members as allowed under the Constitution. Representative Steve Gander released the following statement: "Secretary Simon’s actions are downright out of line and clearly go against what the Constitution lays out—we have the authority to compel absent members, plain and simple. Since he’s refusing to allow a motion on the House Floor to hold Democrats accountable, we’re left with no choice but to pursue legal action. Minnesotans expect us to get to work and solve real problems. It’s time for the Democrats to quit stalling and do right by the people of this state." You can find the filed Petition, Memorandum, and Declaration here. ### |
