Interim Update![]() Dear friends and neighbors, This week, our hearts are heavy as we grieve alongside the families, teachers, parish staff, and community members devastated by the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. No words can truly capture the weight of this sorrow. This was a criminal attack by a deranged individual—an attack not only on innocent lives, but on our faith, our families, our educational system, and the trust that binds our society together. In the face of such evil, we are reminded of how precious and fragile life is. We mourn with those who have lost loved ones, we pray for the wounded and their families, and we honor the courage of the teachers, staff, and first responders who acted swiftly to protect others. As a legislature along with our communities, we stand united in our commitment to take meaningful action to prevent such tragedies and to safeguard the lives of our children and neighbors. Yet even in the darkest of times, we must not allow violence to rob us of our love for one another. One of the most powerful ways we can resist despair is by continuing to gather, to support, and to celebrate what is good in life. Let us hold both grief and gratitude in our hearts this week—grief for what has been lost, and gratitude for the blessings of community that no act of violence can take away. ![]()
Strength in Community![]() Even in a week filled with grief, I was blessed to spend some time at the Great Minnesota Get-Together. The State Fair has a way of reminding us that, even when the world feels heavy, there is still so much good all around us. From watching kids proudly show their 4-H projects, to seeing families laugh together over a shared bucket of cookies, to visiting with neighbors at the exhibits—it was a powerful reminder of the strength and kindness that make our state what it is. In moments like these, I’m reminded that Minnesota is more than just a place we live—it’s a family. We show up for one another in hard times, and we celebrate with one another in the good times. At the Fair, you see that spirit everywhere, and it gives me hope that even in the face of sorrow, love and community will always shine brighter. ![]() ![]()
Coffee and Conversation in Benson![]() On my way back home from the Fair, I had the chance to stop in Benson and catch up with my good friend and fellow House member, Rep. Scott VanBinsbergen. We shared a warm cup of coffee at the Benson Bakery and enjoyed some good conversation with the wonderful folks who stopped by. Moments like these remind me how important it is to stay connected with the people we serve—listening to your stories, your challenges, and your hopes for the future. ![]()
Walking Together in Faith and HopeAs always, thank you for your continued support, your prayers, and the many ways you show what it means to be part of such a caring community. Representing District 1B is a privilege I hold close to my heart, and in weeks like this, I’m reminded even more deeply of the responsibility that comes with it. Please remember that you are never alone. In times of joy and in times of grief, I encourage you to reach out—whether to share your concerns, your ideas, or simply your story. Together, and by God’s grace, we can continue working toward a Minnesota where every family feels safe, valued, and supported. You can reach me at 651-296-5091, by email at rep.steve.gander@house.mn.gov, or connect with me on Facebook for updates from the Capitol and around the district. Until next time, may you find comfort in community, hope in the days ahead, and a moment to rest and recharge this weekend. Sincerely, Representative Steve Gander Minnesota House of Representatives, District 1B |
