Hello from the State Capitol,
With at least $9 billion in fraud being stolen from state taxpayers, there has been no accountability.
This week, the House Rules committee discussed how to move forward with articles of impeachment against Governor Walz due to his ignorance, unwillingness, or inability to stop fraud in Minnesota. The same procedure was discussed for Attorney General Keith Ellison.
As it has been all year long, Democrats have not taken this state’s fraud problem seriously. Instead of considering the possibility that our constitutional officers should accept some responsibility, all they could do is complain about President Trump and national topics and belittle our concerns.
Unfortunately – as it has been with almost every other bill of consequence this year – the articles of impeachment discussion stalled on a tied committee vote.
AT LEAST $20 BILLION ALLOCATED IN MINNESOTA TO HIGH-RISK MEDICAID PROGRAMS
This week, a KARE 11 investigation revealed that an astonishing $20 billion in Medicaid reimbursements has been distributed to 14 state programs that have been flagged as high risk for fraud, waste, and abuse. It’s an astounding number and again calls into question why the administration has allowed this to happen.
Taxpayers are rightfully angered by this news. They expect their tax dollars to be used wisely and for their intended purpose. It might make your head hurt to think about how much of this $20 billion actually went to people who needed it as compared to fraudsters.
House Republicans have continued to call for stronger fraud prevention measures, increased transparency, and meaningful accountability, and we only have a few weeks left to enact some new protections into law.
FRAUD SUSPECT ALLOWED TO LEAVE MINNESOTA
Some days, you can’t make this stuff up.
With all the fraud that has gone on in this state, people are demanding accountability. Here’s a case where we had someone in custody, nearly ready to stand trial for his crimes, and a liberal judge lets him leave.
Abdirashid Said was charged with racketeering in an $11 million Medicaid fraud scam, and later with perjury. At his bail hearing, the judge was warned that he was a flight risk as his family lives in Kenya. Despite this, the judge allowed Said to post a $150,000 bond without surrendering his passport.
He then hopped on a plane and left the country.
And you wonder why people get upset with their government!
