It’s been a week full of long floor sessions, difficult discussions, and a lot of late nights as we work through the key omnibus bills that will shape the future of our state. Last Friday, we passed our Public Safety Omnibus Bill with strong bipartisan support. This bill is especially meaningful to me, as ensuring our communities are safe and well-supported is something I care deeply about. It’s so important that we give law enforcement and first responders the resources and training they need to protect us, and it was encouraging to see lawmakers from both sides of the aisle come together to make that happen. Then, on Monday, we passed our Higher Education Omnibus Bill, which focuses on investing in Minnesota’s teachers and students to strengthen our workforce for the future. From supporting technical training to investing in our state universities, this bill helps our young people succeed. We also made responsible decisions on funding, cutting unnecessary programs and redistributing resources to save $179 million—helping to reduce the state’s budget deficit while still supporting our priorities. Looking ahead, we are projected to wrap up our Taxes Omnibus Bill on May 19, just before the session adjourns. This bill will be key to determining how we move forward with tax policies that impact Minnesotans across the state. We’re focused on protecting Minnesotans from unnecessary tax hikes and ensuring any changes are fair and responsible. With just over two weeks left until the May 19 adjournment deadline, we are pushing forward with each major budget bill. My goal remains simple: to deliver a balanced, thoughtful budget that puts the needs of Minnesotans first and prioritizes responsible action over political gamesmanship. Let’s finish strong!
Protecting Counties from State OverreachGovernor Walz’s DHS budget proposal should raise red flags for anyone who cares about local control and responsible leadership. Back in February, county commissioners across the state sounded the alarm: the Governor’s plan would shift $460 million in costs from the state onto local governments. That means counties—many already operating on tight budgets—would be forced to either cut essential services or raise property taxes on Minnesotans. The consequences are real. Some counties in Greater Minnesota are facing potential property tax increases of up to 9% just to keep up. This isn’t theoretical—it’s real money coming out of your pocket because of a decision made at the Capitol. The state’s job is to lead wisely—not to pass the buck and leave local communities to clean up the mess. This cost shift is unfair, unsustainable, and wrong. House Republicans are standing with our counties and doing everything we can to stop this from moving forward. But we need Minnesotans to stay engaged and continue speaking up. Greater Minnesota shouldn’t be left holding the bag. We can—and must—do better!
Skol Coach O'Connell!![]() Huge congratulations to Coach Kevin O’Connell on winning the 2024 NFL Coach of the Year Award! It was an exciting day when the Minnesota Vikings' very own coach swung by the House floor, where we had the honor of recognizing him with an official House Resolution. A true leader on and off the field, we’re so proud to celebrate this incredible achievement! My sons and husband were especially jealous, but they’ll have to wait for their turn to meet the Coach!
Furry Friends and the Capitol!![]() A big thank you to Three Rivers Park District for bringing some adorable guests to the Capitol for Animals on the Mall Day! We had an absolute blast meeting these little sweeties—what a fun (and fluffy!) way to brighten the day.
A Fabulous Derby Day at the House!![]() On Thursday, I had the pleasure of celebrating my very first Derby Day at the House! I had such a fabulous time dressing up for the occasion, and to top it off, I was honored to win the "Best Hat" award! It was a wonderful day filled with style, smiles, and great company. Can't wait for next year’s festivities!
