Minnesotans expect their elected leaders to show up, do the work, and deliver results. That’s exactly what my House Republican colleagues and I have been doing: attending negotiations, working through policy language, and staying ready to get the job done. Meanwhile, while we were putting in the hours here at the Capitol, Governor Tim Walz was campaigning… in South Carolina. Yes, really. Instead of staying in Minnesota to help finalize a deal, the Governor was on the national stage encouraging his party to “be a little meaner” and take a more aggressive stance against President Trump. You can watch the clip here: Governor Walz in South Carolina His exact words? “Maybe it's time for us to be a little meaner, a little bit more fierce, because we have to ferociously push back on this.” But here’s the truth: Minnesotans aren’t asking for more mean-spirited politics. They’re asking for safer communities, accountability, and a budget that respects their hard-earned dollars. We should be leading with clarity and purpose—not political theater. Representative Max Rymer (R- North Branch) put it best in his post on X: It’s time to lead. Our state needs a Governor who is present, focused, and committed to the people of Minnesota—not someone auditioning for a national spotlight. I’ll keep showing up and doing what you sent me here to do. Minnesotans deserve better—and I’m not backing down from that fight!
A Wonderful Visit to MRCI!![]() Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of visiting MRCI — and let me tell you, what an inspiring team they have! In the photo: on the left is Julie Lux, Chief of Client Directed Services (and an absolute powerhouse when it comes to advocating for client needs). To the far right is Patrick "Casey" Westhoff, MRCI’s CEO — his leadership and vision are helping steer the ship in an exciting direction. And to my right is Tami Reuter, their incredible Chief Business and Marketing Officer, who brings both heart and strategy to the table. It was a great opportunity to hear firsthand about the work they’re doing to empower individuals across Minnesota. I’m grateful for their hospitality and commitment to making a difference! ![]() ![]()
A Fun Moment at the Ballpark!![]() Sometimes the best conversations happen outside the Capitol—and Thursday night was a perfect example. While cheering on my stepson at his baseball game, I was stopped by none other than State Highway Patrol Chief Gabe. He came over with a big smile, said some kind words about the work we’re doing, and asked for a quick selfie. It was such a nice surprise—and a great reminder that even in busy seasons, connection and community are everywhere. Thank you, Chief Gabe, for making my night—and for your continued service to our state! ![]()
No More Distractions — It’s Time to DeliverThis special session is too important for distractions and political drama. Minnesotans deserve leaders who show up, get down to business, and deliver results—not soundbites or national auditions. I’ll keep rolling up my sleeves and fighting every day for a budget that makes sense, safer communities, and accountability for our state’s resources. And of course, I’ll keep you in the loop every step of the way. Thanks for trusting me to represent you. We’re in this together, and I’m not backing down anytime soon. Sincerely, Representative Erica Schwartz Minnesota House of Representatives, District 18A
