Interim UpdateDear Friends and Neighbors, Fall is officially here! There’s something about crisp air, golden leaves, and pumpkin-spiced everything that makes this season feel full of possibility. It’s a time for reflection—and for action. So, I’m excited to share a few updates on the work we’re doing together to keep Minnesota safe, strong, and thriving.
What’s Next? A Potential Special SessionGovernor Walz has announced he’s aiming for a third term in 2026, calling it “historic progress” and asking Minnesotans to “come together.” But if you’ve been talking with families across our state, you know the reality feels different—schools stretched thin, taxes rising, and communities worried about safety. Now there’s talk of a special session. Before we can even weigh in, we need details. What policies are on the table? Who decides? And how will these plans actually impact everyday Minnesotans? Right now… crickets. A recent KSTP poll gives us a glimpse of what really matters: 40%: mental health 30%: gun safety 17%: school security 10%: criminal penalties That aligns perfectly with the work we’ve been doing—keeping kids safe, expanding mental health access, and holding repeat violent offenders accountable. One example is the SHIELD Act, which funds real, practical safety measures in schools: secure classroom doors, duress alarms connected directly to law enforcement, and staff training that actually works. These aren’t flashy headlines—they’re steps that save lives. At the same time, we need strong mental health services, more treatment options, and doctors empowered to do what’s best for their patients. And for those who repeatedly break the law, justice must be certain. Minnesota families deserve leaders who listen, act thoughtfully, and prioritize real solutions over political theater. I’ll keep you updated on these discussions and continue fighting for what truly matters: protecting students, caring for families, and ensuring justice.
Staying Connected in Our CommunityOne of the absolute best parts of being your state representative is getting out into the community—it’s where the work feels real, the stories are powerful, and the people of Minnesota shine brightest. Each visit is a chance to listen, learn, and celebrate the people and organizations making a difference. Here’s a glimpse into my week: IBEW Welcome![]()

Staying in TouchAs always, hearing from you keeps me grounded and focused on what matters most: Minnesota families, students, and communities. Whether it’s a story you share, a question you ask, or an idea you bring to the table, your voice shapes the work I do every day. I encourage you to stay connected—follow along on Facebook, reach out with your thoughts, or just drop a quick hello. Every conversation reminds me why this job is such a privilege and why I’m so grateful to serve you. Here’s to a season full of good conversations, meaningful action, and a little bit of Minnesota magic along the way. Stay safe, stay inspired, and keep speaking up—together, we’re making a difference. Sincerely, Representative Erica Schwartz Minnesota House of Representatives, District 18A |
