Rep. Terry Stier Responds to Report on Walz’s $430,000 Taxpayer-Funded PR Prep

Le Sueur, MN — In response to recent reports that Governor Tim Walz used over $430,000 in taxpayer funds to hire a public relations firm to prepare for a congressional hearing, State Representative Terry Stier issued the following statement:

“After completing my first year in the Minnesota House, one thing is always top of mind: this isn’t our money, it’s yours. Like many of you, I manage a family budget and think hard before spending a dime. That mindset doesn’t disappear when I walk into the Capitol.

That’s why it’s so frustrating to learn that Governor Walz spent nearly half a million taxpayer dollars, not on services for Minnesotans, but to polish his image ahead of a congressional hearing. I recently submitted a mileage reimbursement and hesitated because I understand every dollar counts. Meanwhile, the Governor casually signed off on $430,000 for PR support and never looked back.

This kind of spending shows just how far out of touch some leaders have become. Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, this should offend you. Minnesotans are working hard to put food on the table, save for retirement, and cover costs. They deserve accountability and respect, not political vanity projects at their expense.

Public service is about trust. And when that trust is broken, it’s our responsibility to call it out.”
